At my most recent Italian wine tasting, I immediately was confronted with a problem.  I began my journey at the table for Livon, a small, family owned winery in Escape Artists’ favorite white wine producing region, Friuli Venezia Giulia.  After the first sip, I realized I had just destroyed my day of tasting.  This wine expresses itself exquisitely, it offers a totally unique expression of the varietal and tastes absolutely scrumptious.  I knew that no other wines I tasted that day would match up to the magnitude that is the Livon estate.  Made mostly from single, native, kinda weird varietals, like Ribolla Gialla, Friuliano, and Schioppettino, they also produce a fabulous white blend named Manditocai that each year receives countless awards and accolades.  Do yourself a favor the next heat wave and taste the delicious joy of Livon.  Just don’t plan on drinking anything else afterwards.
